Footwear and athletic-gear company Implus Corp. is in expansion mode. The Durham, N.C.-based company has inked a deal with Liberty Property Trust to put up a new building next to its headquarters on T.W. Alexander Drive.
Construction of the 136,500-sq.-ft. space is expected to begin this month. It will give the company 40 percent more distribution and office space, according to Grey Stryker, director of marketing for Implus.
Currently, Implus employs 360 people nationwide, with more than 3oo based in Durham. Stryker said the number of new hires once the building is open has not been determined.
Liberty Property Trust, based in Malvern, Pa., is the owner and developer of the proposed 36-acre Liberty Ridge industrial park, on T.W. Alexander Drive between Page Road and Miami Boulevard in east Durham on the edge of Research Triangle Park. The project was designed by Dishner Moore Architects.
The announcement comes on the heels of news from Implus in May that it had sold a majority stake in the company to Boston-based investment firm Berkshire Partners. Shortly after the deal, Implus acquired sockmaker Belega Socks. Implus also owns Sof Sole, Yaktrax, Airplus and Sneaker Balls, among others.
