E-commerce site Mr Porter, best known for its luxury menswear, today launched its new department catering to the active man. Mr Porter Sport, which occupies a section on the main site, currently offers footwear, apparel and accessories from 25 brands, arranged into nine categories, including running, cycling, tennis, golf, outdoor and sailing.
The website — brother to Net-a-Porter — has said it will introduce additional categories in the coming seasons, among them surf and ski.
This move is in line with the fashion world’s shift toward a sporty, casual vibe. Each day brings a new collaboration between fashion designers and core performance brands, and luxury labels have embraced sneakers as a wardrobe staple.
Toby Bateman, buying director for Mr Porter, explained the company’s thinking behind the launch: “We know that sport and fitness are integral to our customers’ interests and day-to-day lives, so beyond offering the best in men’s fashion, we want to offer our global audience the best in men’s sports apparel as well.”

Right now, Mr Porter Sport has a select offering of footwear brands with a range of prices, from $85 for a Sperry boat shoe to $1,460 for golf cleats by Edward Green.
For running, there are styles from Nike, Newton and Athletic Propulsion Labs, while cyclists can find hip styles from Italian label Fizik.
