The deal was inked about 18 months after Madden and Atwood teamed up to acquire the designer’s labels from The Jones Group. Since then, the partners have been hatching plans for the B Brian Atwood line, the high-contemporary counterpart to the main Brian Atwood luxury collection.
“With Steve Madden, we’ve been pondering the idea of who would be a great retail partner,” Atwood told Footwear News from Milan, where he is prepping for his Fashion Week presentation next Thursday. “Since the designer line was already [well established] with [the Hudson’s Bay Co. group of retailers], it made sense. Their client understands our product.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome B Brian Atwood exclusively to Hudson’s Bay in Canada and Lord & Taylor in the U.S. this fall,” added MaryAnne Morin, EVP and chief merchant of HBC Department Store Group. “It’s been a top priority to bring new and exclusive products to our customers in both countries, and this collection was one of those special opportunities that doesn’t come around very often — we knew it was right for our stores.”
Morin said Atwood has a special eye for what women want. “The colors, textures and details in this collection of shoes and handbags are wonderful, and I know our customers will love them,” she added.
A holiday marketing campaign will support the launch, and the partners will also bow an expanded collection for spring ’16. Atwood plans to make several store appearances to promote the line in 2016.
