Canadian Retailer Gravity Pope Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Canadian footwear, apparel and accessories retailer, Gravity Pope, has lots to celebrate this year. The retailer, marking its 25th anniversary this year, is bowing a micro-department store in October in Calgary. The space will house footwear, clothing, accessories and apothecary. Also featured will be Edmonton-based choclatier, Sweet Lollapalooza and  specialty record shop, Blackbyrd Myoozik.

Store founder Louise Dirks, kicked off the anniversary earlier this year by tapping apparel and shoe brands to create exclusive limited-edition collections based on their iconic looks. With input from Dirks, footwear brands such as Vans, Sorel, Manitobah Mukluks, Audley, Coclico, Gidigio and Red Wing, produced limited-edition styles all done in black and white, a signature of early ’90s fashion. Select styles have been reordered for late fall ’15 and early spring ’16 delivery.

For Dr. Martens, Dirks worked with its team to change up the yellow stitching and laces of the classic 1460 boot to white that’s made in England. At John Fluevog, its Jerusalem Chelsea boot for men and women was done in full-grain pebbled leather with the addition of white tabs. The Trippen team in Paris customized its Fence bootie in white-edged leather.
