Luxury online shopping site Gilt.com is bringing its business to the real world. Starting Sept. 8, the company will offer a new service, called Gilt by Appointment, that allows loyal members the chance to shop its selection of shoes, apparel and accessories in a showroom space within the firm’s New York headquarters.
By registering for an appointment, customers can shop items from the retailer’s inventory of designer labels, including Jimmy Choo, Isabel Marant, Derek Lam, Miu Miu, Balenciaga, Anna Sui, Vintage Chanel and Vintage Hermes. All come with the company’s standard discount, which can be as much as 70 percent off.
The Gilt by Appointment service has three shopping options: a private one-on-one meeting with a personal stylist, a shared appointment with a friend or a group outing with up to five friends. The company says the showroom will be open Tuesday through Friday, and all appointments will last from 60 to 90 minutes. Members can schedule an appointment now on the Gilt website.
Many e-tail companies have begun venturing into brick-and-mortar, including Bonobos and Warby Parker. This IRL initiative from Gilt suggests the company could be mulling a similar move; however, the “by appointment” model smartly aligns with its elite, luxury brand identity.
In a statement, Gilt’s chief marketing officer, Clay Cowan, said, “We always look for new ways to engage our members and bring them insider access to the most coveted brands. Launching the Gilt by Appointment showroom opens up a whole new way of shopping Gilt, allowing our members to experience the perks of Gilt.com with the convenience that comes with brick-and-mortar shopping, including trying on and seeing items in person, shopping with a personal stylist, and the excitement of taking home their purchases that day.”
