Phil Knight may plan on slowing down but the company he founded is focused on getting faster. Nike Inc. unveiled a new campaign today with the goal of helping athletes to speed up.
The ad spots, called “Find Your Fast,” will begin airing to the public tomorrow, July 2, and feature tie-ins with the running community throughout the campaign. The marketing features a number of elite athletes who are known for their trailblazing speed.
Stars include runners Michael Johnson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, NBA great Kobe Bryant and magician David Blaine, among others. It even has a cameo from the Road Runner cartoon character in what the company said will pay tribute to one of its speediest running shoes, the Nike Air Zoom Elite 8.
Many of the Beaverton, Ore.-based company’s sponsored athletes train or compete in the Nike Air Zoom Elite, which, like the professionals, also receives prominent placement.
The company said the goal of the campaign is to “inspire athletes to run or train for their fastest time this summer. Whether preparing for a first mile or looking to shave seconds or minutes off a personal record, all athletes can get faster.”
Tennis champion Rafael Nadal said in the statement that “being fast in tennis is everything. If I’m quicker to the ball I’m in greater control and I can exert my will on the match and the opponent. Fast wins matches. I want everything about me on court to be fast.”
Throughout the campaign, the company will release several short films featuring the 13 athletes.
