Former American pro boxer, Sugar Ray Leonard, has signed on to front the latest global ad campaign for Skechers. The 1980s “Boxer of the Decade” will appear in the campaign for the company’s popular Relaxed Fit range of sneakers.

Leonard marks the first time the brand has enlisted a boxer for the campaign. Previous stars who have lent their faces include Ringo Starr, Joe Montana and Joe Namath.

Speaking of the campaign, Leonard said, “I am looking forward to being a part of this campaign with Skechers. I love going toe-to-toe with the best – and I’m ready to put on a pair of shoes as comfortable as Relaxed Fit and go a few rounds for this brand.”

“Sugar Ray is a natural media magnet: his charm and charisma have kept him on the air for more than 30 years as America’s boxing icon. “Now that he’s delivering blow-by-blow commentary on NBC Sports’ Premier Boxing Champions series, it’s the perfect time for millions to see his signature style in Relaxed Fit footwear. We’re excited to have a champ like Sugar Ray in our corner,” said president of Skechers, Michael Greenberg.

In addition to the United States, Skechers Inc. footwear is currently available in 120 countries worldwide. The brand has 1ooo retail stores and an e commerce site located at skechers.com.
