Longtime fashion editor Roopal Patel has been named the new fashion director of department store Saks Fifth Avenue.
Patel, who starts immediately, will primarily work on trend forecasting for buying and communicating seasonal fashion stories for the retailer. The position reports directly to Tracy Margolies, Saks’ recently hired chief merchant.
Prior to joining Saks, Patel and Margolies worked together many years ago while at Bergdorf Goodman. Patel joins Saks after founding her own fashion and retail company, the Roopal Patel Consultancy. Prior to that she served as the executive fashion director of e-tailer Moda Operandi. For more than 10 years she was with the Neiman Marcus Group, where she served as senior fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman and senior accessory market editor for Neiman Marcus.
“I am truly honored to join Saks Fifth Avenue during this exciting and dynamic time. I have long admired Saks Fifth Avenue’s iconic history and am thrilled to be on the team. I look forward to working with Marc, Tracy and the entire Saks team to bring an elevated fashion message to the customer and build a strong future for Saks,” said Patel in a release this morning.
