In an effort to grow her brand’s international presence, Ivanka Trump has named Trish Whalen vice president of business development for Trump’s eponymous brand of apparel, shoes and accessories.
The announcement of the newly created position — Whalen will report directly to Trump — came on Friday, with the company stating that Whalen’s main focus will be on expanding the Ivanka Trump business internationally as well as domestically through partnerships and new licensing opportunities.
“The overwhelming success and growth of my existing categories have opened the door to several new opportunities for my brand, both in new categories and new markets around the world,” Trump said in a release. “Trish brings a wealth of experience and leadership in expanding a brand’s footprint, and I know that she will set a new benchmark for our company.”
Whalen most recently headed the domestic licensing division for Maxim and before that spent nearly 10 years at Kate Spade New York, exiting in 2014 as head of product strategy.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Ivanka’s incredible team. Her “Women Who Work”campaign is one of the reasons I was so drawn to the company. This is an opportunity to expand an exciting brand and business that combines fantastic product with a positive message for professional women. I look forward to capitalizing on the incredibly strong momentum of the Ivanka Trump brand,” Whalen said in a release.
A spokesperson for Ivanka Trump told FN today that Whalen’s appointment is “all about new categories for growth” and that the company expects footwear to be a big driver of that.
“Our continued success in existing categories, of which shoes continue to be a big part, has opened the door to many new opportunities,” Trump’s spokesperson said.
