DSW Awards $75,000 to Parkinson Foundation

It’s the season for giving, and DSW has gotten a little help from its shoe-loving customers.

The retailer announced the return of the Shoe Lovers Care: Leave Your Mark fundraiser in June, and the winning nonprofit was announced today. This year’s winner is the National Parkinson Foundation.

The Leave Your Mark campaign relies on store associates to nominate various charities and then vote for an organization to receive one $75,000 donation. More than 320,000 votes came in for the winning nonprofit.

Store associate Katie Back nominated the National Parkinson Foundation after her mother was diagnosed with the disease last year.

“My mom was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s last year, and my family and I have watched the disease progress both mentally and physically. Her life changed drastically over the last year, so this donation really means a lot to my family,” Back said.

The other nominated organizations — Amethyst Inc. CHA Animal Shelter, Donate Life America, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Northern Illinois Food Banks, Soles4Souls and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital — will all receive $5,000 donations.
