A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…Mark Hamill had the flyest kicks ever seen. The ‘Star Wars’ faithful freaked out when it was announced that Hamill’s Luke Skywalker would appear in 2015’s new chapter, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and we’re hoping the film is a return to form for his iconic footwear.
Fan frenzy hit a critical mass this week when Hamill spoke with ‘Entertainment Weekly’ for the first time at length about his new role as an older Luke.
“We knew it was special, but [returning for the new trilogy] reminded me of taking out a pair of trousers from the back of the closet and discovering a $20 bill in the pocket,” he quipped.
But he didn’t answer the question on every footwear-focused sci-fi fanatic’s mind: will Luke’s Tatooine boots from “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” make a comeback?
Time will tell, as there have been no pictures of the returning classic cast — Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher — in costume released yet.
In the meantime, a quick search of eBay reveals many industrious collectors and fans who have duplicated the iconic boots for both action figures and real humans. Not for nothing, but Christmas is right around the corner and we’re a size 12…
Until the film’s release, we will just share Hamill’s excitement for the revived character, which he couldn’t contain in the interview.
“It’s kind of like Scrooge on Christmas morning. ‘Oh my God, this time I’m going to appreciate it in a way I wasn’t able to as a young man,’” he said. “The fact that it is so special to so many people … it’s hard to believe you could take something for granted like that.”
