More and more, designers are working to incorporate the present penchant for sportswear in innovative formats for spring. Skirts and sneakers have had their day, so what’s next?
The answer, it seems, is incorporating athletic-influences across a range of silhouettes — especially those with a classically feminine feel.
Enter Preen. The Brit label’s fashion wares have caught the eyes of editors season after season, and its current accessories range is no different.
FN caught up with Justin Thornton, one-half of Preen’s design duo (the other being Thea Bregazzi) to discuss key looks, catwalk crossover and, of all things, cricket.
Spring ’15 has a specifically sporty feel. Did you look to any game in particular?
We were inspired by the sport of cricket and wanted to incorporate sport-inspired detailing on classic shoe shapes.
What are the key footwear styles this season?
The sport stilettos and the rubber-sole flat sandals!
How do the spring footwear styles draw from and work with the mainline offering?
They were designed to perfectly complement the collection and, in some cases, oppose the design. For example, we often put a tough-looking shoe with a super-feminine dress or a sexy shoe with a casual daytime look.
