Paris Shoe of the Day: Saint Laurent

The Saint Laurent show proved a strong testament to the power of footwear to transform. Continuing his deep dive into Los Angeles vintage emporiums and the house archives, Hedi Slimane sent a series of fetching flats and low-heeled styles down the runway. The most compelling were the crystal-spangled styles — offered in both a strappy dance slipper and retro tall boot — which took baby doll dresses and Portobello Road-style outerwear up several notches, from high street to proper fashion. While the spirit was distinctly late 1960s, recalling lanky muse Betty Catroux (who sat front row), current bright young things also will clamor for all that shimmers come fall ’14.
