Milan Shoe of the Day: Marni

While womanly curves may have been exaggerated on the Marni runway by all manner of tuft, bustle, peplum and ruffle, it was an entirely different story below the ankles. Menswear flats — offered in both round and winklepicker toe shapes and in ecru, tourmaline and bottle-green hues — tempered the extravagance. Of course, this kind of interplay between footwear and ready-to-wear is always important to designer Consuelo Castiglioni’s intelligentsia universe. It’s a world that has no room for cliche sexy stilettos that saunter with the pack. With a thick slab sole and big kiltie tongue sticking out, this was a shoe with her characteristic clomp.
