MFW Spring ’15: Day 1

FN’s fashion editor reports from the footwear front lines in London, Milan and Paris.

10:50 a.m.
Arrive in sunny Milan ready to tackle the week ahead. First step: zipping up Via Spiga’s tasseled pointy boots.

2:03 p.m.
Enter Gucci’s red room and find my seat. Kate Moss chats front row with Charlotte Casiraghi, who has traded her signature Gucci riding footwear for black pointy pumps. The collection points out a key footwear predicament for spring ’15 — what to wear with all these culottes? Frida Giannini’s answer is a sleek fitted boot.

3:30 p.m.
Switching over from London’s English breakfast tea to a Milanese espresso macchiato at Bar Nicol, across the street from the Milan bureau. Perfect pick-me-up.

6:17 p.m.
Time for No. 21 — Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s cool contemporary line. But first, the piglet pink runway needs a good peel.

6:23 p.m.
Showtime. Those bowed mules. A shoe editor’s dream. New, new, new. I’ve found my Shoe of the Day.

7:37 p.m.
Squeezed tight at Fausto Puglisi and short on patience with all the latecomers and peacocks. When the show finally starts, the only thing louder than the OTT crystal gladiators is the blasting music. There must be a market for chic earplugs, yes?
