Alexander Wang Gets His Kicks at NYFW

Despite showing not one pair of them in his spring ’15 collection, sneakers are what Alexander Wang cited as his inspiration this season.

The designer, who is also creative director at Balenciaga, sent heels down the runway instead, featuring black mesh uppers, tube-shaped ankle straps and dual-color crosshatch patterns.

It was the clothes that referenced some of today’s hottest sneaker trends, incorporating high-tech fabrics, molded silhouettes that mimicked sneaker treads, and a riff on bar codes for an overall sporty feel.

Though no brands were mentioned, it was clear the designer was looking to some of the more familiar lines, with several tennis dresses reflecting a bit of Adidas’ Stan Smiths.
