Toms Shoes Grows in Texas
Blake Mycoskie is starting 2014 with a bang. The founder of Toms Shoes will be on hand next week at South by Southwest to launch a new product category and also open the brand’s second U.S. store, at 1401 S. Congress Ave. in Austin, Texas. The shop, slated to debut March 12, is a standalone location in a renovated Victorian-era home. The new 2,400-sq.-ft. store also will feature a café and public gathering space for concerts and meetings, in addition to the company’s namesake footwear and eyewear.
Austin Gets Second Nordstrom
Nordstrom is expanding again in Texas. The retailer is debuting at The Domain, a mixed-use development in Austin. The 123,000-sq.-ft. store is slated to bow for fall ’16 and will be an anchor tenant in the development. The location is Nordstrom’s second in Austin; the company opened a store at Barton Creek Square in 2003 and has a Nordstrom Rack at Gateway Center and Sunset Valley. “Austin is a dynamic and growing community and we believe this new store will allow us to better serve more customers in the area,” Erik Nordstrom, president of stores for Nordstrom Inc., said in a statement.
Scoop NYC heads south in this year. The retailer will open a door in the Buckhead Atlanta development. The eight-block mixed-use development is being built by Oliver McMillian and will boast a total of about 300,000 square feet of luxury retail space. The new Scoop NYC location is the first one for Georgia. The luxury boutique, which sells footwear from Stuart Weitzman to Michael Kors, operates 19 stores in eight states.
