Adidas in the Quarter
Adidas opened a pop-up shop, Adidas in the Quarter, in New Orleans as a part of the upcoming 63rd annual NBA All-Star Game. Located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, the store will feature official merchandise for the Feb. 16 game including men’s and women’s jerseys, apparel and accessories. The brand will also offer limited-edition shoes from Adidas Originals and basketball collections, including the D Howard 4, Crazy 8, Crazy 1 and new Crazyquick 2. In addition to player appearances and other in-store events, Adidas also launched a social media campaign centering on the store. The 2,400-sq.-ft. space is slated to stay open until Feb. 23.
Independent specialty running store Naperville Running Co. opened its second location in Naperville, Ill., last week. While the store is slightly smaller than the original downtown location, the new 3,800-sq.-ft. shop will feature 200 styles of shoes as well as apparel and other athletic accessories. The latest location, at 3416 S Route 59 in Naperville, will host a grand opening this spring. “We know a lot of our customer base lives on the south side of Naperville,” said owner Kris Hartner. “The community is really excited [that] we are there.”
On the Run
Running Specialty Group has expanded in Virginia. The company, which owns several independent running stores across the country, purchased VA Runner, which has two locations in Fredericksburg, Va., and Woodbridge, Va. The stores, both 3,400 square feet, are near Washington, D.C. “We feel that RSG is the best company to carry on our mission by keeping the stores and staff local,” former VA Runner owner Carol Van Horn said in a statement. Van Horn will stay on in a consultancy role during the transition period. “Being part of a larger company like RSG will enable VA Runner to have an even bigger impact in our area,” she added.
