Makers Monday kicks off on Dec. 1.
If you’re new to the national pre-holiday campaign, it’s an annual celebration started by Detroit-based Shinola in 2013 to encourage shoppers to buy American-made products.
Teaming this year with New Balance and Cool Hunting, an online destination for creative inspiration, Shinola is hoping consumers will commit to the initiative and promote the wares they’ve purchased across social media, starting on Makers Monday.
New Balance has long endorsed the #MadeInAmerica cause, with one out of every four pairs of its shoes produced or assembled in the States. Earlier this month, Brad Miller, GM of enduring purpose and domestic manufacturing at the athletic brand, discussed some of the obstacles facing this cause:
“The biggest challenge is that we are still reliant on the Far East for getting certain materials. We’re looking down South for companies that are closely vertically integrated to us, so we’re less reliant on third-party operations, which would also speed up our ability to service the market.”
