Hello Kitty: In Character

Feline superstar Hello Kitty turns 40 this week and is celebrating the milestone with a year of festivities. Not only is there an exhibition at the Japanese American National Museum that runs through April 2015, but there’s also a string of commemoratory footwear collaborations.

The international cartoon cat, the property of parent company Sanrio Inc., can be seen on styles from brands including Minnetonka, Keds and Vans.

Here, FN takes a look at this year’s footwear celebration.

1. E.S. Originals …
has been turning out Hello Kitty product for the past decade, and offers a range of kids’ and juniors’ product. The stand-alone collection includes everything from fashion boots to slippers, available at a wide range of price points.

2. Vans …
released a collection targeting women and children for spring ’14. The limited-edition series is currently available online at Vans.com/hellokitty. Retail prices range from $37 to $70.

3. Minnetonka …
has added the iconic image to styles for both women and girls. Included in the offering is a classic moccasin and fringed ankle bootie currently at retail. Available in four colors, prices range from $40 to $50 for children’s and $50 to $70 for adults.

4. Western Chief …
is continuing its ongoing association with Hello Kitty for a series of rain boots and gear for spring ’15. The collection features a novelty boot that lights up at the heel when walking, which retails for $38.

5. T.U.K. …
launched a series of women’s styles this year and will be adding four new looks for spring ’15 on creeper bottoms. Retail prices range from $90 to $100, with the collection available on Tukshoes.com and Sanrio.com beginning in December.

6. Jeffrey Campbell …
presented a series of funky adult styles last month. The collection, retailing from $160 to $275, includes high-heel platform styles available on Jefferycampbell.com and at select e-tailers and retailers.

7. Crocs …
has been collaborating with Hello Kitty for the past five years and is going forward with the collection for spring ’15, this time with two children’s styles, retailing for $35.

8. Stride Rite Children’s Group …
introduces the Glittery Kitty, retailing for $44, to its Hello Kitty offering for spring ’15.
