Even before the doors to Clarks’ new Soho flagship store officially opened to the public, the location was ringing up sales. Danny Lopez — Her Majesty’s consul-general and director general of trade & investment for the British Consulate-General in New York, and on hand for the VIP grand opening last night — took home two pairs: the Darby Limit, a wingtip brogue with lime-green laces, and the Gatley Walk, a black lace-up style.
“I have a double persona,” said Lopez about his intentions to wear the funky Darby style for casualwear and the more conservative Gatley for work.
Lopez says he’s a longtime fan of the brand and boasts a wardrobe of its styles numbering in the double-digits. “I have [owned] many Clarks over the years,” he said, adding that he’s eager to see a third Clarks location in New York where he can do his shoe shopping. “It’s a brand from 1825 that’s now looking to the future. They’re reinventing themselves — their legacy, history and tradition. Their designs [look] right now in fashion.”
