Cristiano Ronaldo took to Instagram this morning to show off his latest pair of Nike soccer cleats.
“These new boots are well suited for me because they’re elegant, beautiful and they really shine in a new and different way,” Ronaldo said.
The Mercurial Superfly CR7, which is all black and features a shimmer effect using Nikeskin technology, will hit the pitch for the first time in Spain this weekend, when Madrid matches up against rival Barcelona.
“Obviously it’s a special game against a big team this week, and I’m excited to play in boots that I feel so good in,” he said.
The Nike team took inspiration from the soccer star, according to Max Blau, VP of global footwear.
“We knew we wanted to create this shimmering effect on-pitch and do something that would really stand out in the sun or under lights, but it took us many iterations to get it just right,” Blau explained in a statement.
The Mercurial Superfly goes on sale today on Nike’s soccer app, and on the brand’s website on Oct. 24.
