Francesco Russo continues to have a very specific vision for his namesake business.
The French designer, who launched his collection last year, unveiled his new spring ’15 offering today during Paris Fashion Week.
From elegant satin pumps and sandals that coil around the leg to intricate cork boots, the designer once again put the emphasis on ultra-luxe, timeless designs. He also incorporated unique materials, such as goat fur, into some of the collection’s styles.
As he showed off the new line, Russo gave Footwear News a tour of his Paris atelier and talked about his growing business.
What was your strategy for the collection this season?
FR: It’s a continuation of what I’m always trying to do: create purity in lines and the forms. [That’s more important] than decoration, which would detract from the sharpness of the shoe. As usual, I’m trying to work out the classics. I want to make beautiful shoes with beautiful lasts and the best soles. Whatever model I do, I try to stay as simple as possible.
How are you developing the business within the U.S. market?
FR: I just want to build it organically, piece by piece. I’m growing my partnership with the Neiman Marcus group. [In New York], I want Bergdorf Goodman to increase their sell-through and buy deeper into the collection. I want to have one main partner in each city instead of creating competition. Why should I open new doors when I just started my partnership with Bergdorf?
