Buzz: Cipher, Anthony Miles, Bogs & Artola

Hong Kong-based men’s brand Cipher is entering the U.S. market for spring ’15 with a line of fashion-athletic shoes retailing from $550 to $850. The 2-year-old label, founded and designed by Matthew Arrowsmith, targets globe-trotting professionals. The spring collection, titled Future Metropolis, includes low- and high-top sneakers with clean, modern lines. “It’s about having a semiformal product that is not truly sporty,” said Arrowsmith. “They can make their way from an airplane into a boardroom.” Aimed at high-end department stores, specialty stores and boutiques, the collection will deliver in January.

Low Profile

Even if its designer has remained anonymous since the brand’s launch two years ago, British men’s label Anthony Miles is getting more exposure as it prepares to debut in the U.S. for spring ’15. The collection modernizes classic looks with unique bottoms, such as translucent soles with colorful flecks and multicolor ripple styles. The brand, owned by Kirby Footwear Ltd., will be distributed here by Lines of Denmark, based in Olympia, Wash. Retailing from $170 to $250, the line will be targeted to better department stores and boutiques. And for spring, Anthony Miles will make its first foray into women’s with a capsule collection that includes five takes on the men’s Brooke wingtip, retailing from $155 to $225. All footwear is slated to hit stores in January or February.

Digital Play
Brooklyn, N.Y.-based men’s label Artola will launch e-commerce in September. The website is set to feature an exclusive, locally made dress shoe, as well as a new line of accessories. Artola’s footwear collection, which ranges from $195 to $395, is typically made in Mexico and consists of sneakers, loafers and boots. For spring ’15, the brand experimented with using coffee-washed leather (pictured) and is pursuing a patent on the process.

Sun & Sand

Best-known for its waterproof rubber boots, Portland, Ore.-based Bogs Footwear is getting beach-ready with its first sandal collection, debuting for spring ’15. The offering consists of leather and rubber styles for men, women and children. Standout items include the Hudson Leather Flip-Flop for men and women, with Bogs’ Max-Wick technology to keep feet dry, and the Todos Sandal for women (above), outfitted with the brand’s Rebound cushioning. The sandal line will retail for $24 to $90. It is targeted to outdoor specialty and better footwear stores, and will deliver in February or March.
