A new brand sponsorship endeavor is bringing couchsurfing to the next level.
Brazilian footwear brand Rider Sandals is sending Brazilian couple Rômulo Wolff, 34, and Mirella Rabelo, 32, on a two-year couch surfing trip around the world. The two will leave their home in São Paulo to visit 40 countries in six continents.
The couple said they had both dreamed of leaving life in the city to travel. Wolff had worked for only a few months in São Paulo after living abroad for nine years when he began wondering what it would be like to leave the stressful and chaotic environment of the capital city. Similarly, Rabelo had been planning to take a sabbatical year to start an online business and see the world while working.
They met in November of last year, and are now embarking on this journey.
“After living abroad, we have both dreamt of living out an adventure like this — it is in our blood. We are going to do whatever it takes to see it through,” the couple said in a statement.
What will they do while abroad? Crossing off bucket-list, out-of-the-box adventures that they’ve always dreamed of but never had the opportunity to do before, including rafting, bungee jumping, flying in a hot air balloon, scuba diving and crossing a desert.
And they plan to crash on peoples’ couches as much as they can, using Couchsurfing.com to find their accommodations. Rider Sandals will provide them with 1,000 sandal key chains — made with recycled materials, just like Rider Sandals product — to gift to their hosts along the way.
Wolff and Rabelo will document their epic trip on a page called “The Trip” on Rider’s website and on their own social media channels, promoting Rider’s brand message of traveling and sharing.
The two will also wear sandals from Rider’s 2015 line throughout their trip.
