Year in Review: The Covetable Costumes

• Shoes inspired by the Jazz Age received serious air time, thanks to “The Great Gatsby” and “Downton Abbey.” Other period shows, like “Game of Thrones,” gave a nod to menswear-esque looks.

• Speaking of games, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” provided even more buzz for the franchise, featuring over-the-top and fantasy-inspired fashion looks.

• “Sex & the City” also returned to the zeitgeist, with the CW network prequel “The Carrie Diaries,” showcasing top designer names. Meanwhile, hipster favorite “Girls” mixed high and low, featuring more affordable footwear with on-trend frocks.

• Trendsetter Kerry Washington championed clean-cut yet sexy business looks in “Scandal,” while the super-sexy 1970s was back in action, thanks to “American Hustle.”

• And for those feeling extra feisty, “Kinky Boots” (below) turned over-the-knee boots into a movement. So much so that Kenneth Cole created a small capsule collection inspired by the Broadway musical.
