Louise Camuto’s Good Taste

As president of marketing for Camuto Group and creative director for Vince Camuto, Louise Camuto has worked largely behind the scenes at the firm. But she recently stepped into the limelight with new label Louise et Cie. “Having my own line is one of the most exciting [modes] of self-expression,” Camuto said of the brand, which soft launched in spring ’13. The line, retailing for $110 to $269 at Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor and other department stores, consists of understated silhouettes such as single-sole flats, loafers, sandals and pumps. “I get to design what I really want to wear, and the collection is a reflection of my personal style,” she said, adding that the new job has proven demanding — in a good way. “The biggest challenge for me has been to get to the point where the retail buy reflects the best, most directional designs of the collection.” Goals for 2014 include increasing the brand’s presence and beginning an expansion into other lifestyle offerings. But Camuto isn’t all work and no play. In fact, she said, the secret to working with her husband, Vince, is having fun. “If you always remember to laugh together, the partnership will work on every level.”

Email versus snail mail:
“Email, but [snail mail for] thank-you cards. I’m a bit old school that way.”

Favorite jewel: “Black diamonds. I love that they are casual enough to wear every day. They’re very ‘rock star.’”

Holiday must-watch: “‘The Polar Express’ with Tom Hanks. I watch it every year with my son. I don’t quite want to give up on the idea that Santa exists.”

Essential beauty item: “I am obsessed with Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil.”

Signature scent:
“I love Fiori [by Vince Camuto]. It’s a beautiful floral scent. The top notes are iris and freesia.”
