Keen Inc. has a new man at the helm.
The Portland, Ore.-based brand tapped Mike Abbott as president, effective July 8. Abbott was formerly COO of Specialized Bicycles and COO and CFO of Burton Snowboards.
“I have watched Keen over the last 10 years become one of the most authentic and innovative brands in the outdoor space. Their focus on social and environmental concerns [has] made them well respected in the industry,” Abbott told Footwear News. “My immediate focus will be to meet and understand the needs of Keen’s fans, retailers, partners and employees around the globe. Based on this feedback, we will adjust [and] develop the company’s strategic vision to ensure we continue the momentum over the 10 years.”
Abbott replaces James Curleigh, who left the brand about a year ago.
“Mike has proven his ability to lead great companies through rapid growth while maintaining and fostering their authenticity, innovation and superior service,” Rory Fuerst, Keen founder and CEO, said in a statement. “He has worked for brands at the top of their industries and knows what it takes to lead. He is also a genuine, down-to-earth person, which makes him perfect for the Keen team.”
Specifically, Abbott will work to expand the brand’s global presence and maintain the company culture. With the culture in mind, Abbott is known to be an avid fan of outdoor sports, including snowboarding, cycling and marathon running.
“I am honored to lead Keen at this very exciting time in its evolution and am looking forward to joining the great team to continue to excite and inspire Keen fans worldwide,” Abbott said in a statement.
