In a surprise move, Stefani Greenfield has stepped down as the chief creative officer of The Jones Group Inc.
The executive, who joined the firm 17 months ago, will assume the role of global creative consultant. She will work on marketing and creative initiatives for Jones through her consulting firm, My Next Act.
A company spokeswoman said Greenfield will continue to work on Nine West, Brian Atwood and Kurt Geiger, among other brands.
“Stefani has been an instrumental part of our evolution and we thank her for the tremendous work she has done at The Jones Group. She has infused a renewed spirit and appreciation for product design and creative marketing strategies, and has helped develop successful new businesses,” Richard Dickson, president and CEO of branded businesses, said in a statement.
As reported in Monday’s Footwear News cover story, the firm has upped its focus on footwear as part of an ambitious reinvention plan. It hasn’t been easy, and the company is under pressure to accelerate its turnaround.
Last Friday, activist investor group Barington Capital took a stake in Jones. Barington is said to be encouraging Jones to sell off some of its smaller, underperforming brands and more tightly control costs.
