The new PBS serial drama “Mr. Selfridge,” which chronicles the opening of the U.K. department store in 1909 and premiered last night in the U.S., featured a little shout out to footwear.
When members of the production team scouted for a brand to feature in a store window — that was around back then — they discovered 147-year-old Grenson. The English-based footwear firm supplied the show with an archival logo from the time, as well as current shoes that still reflect the era.
“We were delighted to work with the ‘Mr. Selfridge’ production team on this project as Grenson shoes almost certainly would have been sold in Selfridges at the time, and many of our styles today are influenced by our archive,” said Tim Little, owner and creative director of Grenson. “They even used our logo from the time to keep the whole thing authentic.”
