FN Spy: Ruthie Davis Hits Hollywood… Happy 80th, Lacoste

Ladies Who Launch
Ruthie Davis brought a few friends along when she visited Bloomingdale’s in Los Angeles to launch her spring ’13 women’s collection last weekend. “Fashion Star” host Louise Roe and sisters Madeline Fuhrman, a musician, and Isabelle Fuhrman, an actress from “The Hunger Games,” joined the designer for the launch. Isabelle Fuhrman, who is set to star in the film “After Earth” alongside Will Smith and Jaden Smith this summer, picked a pair of spiky Jay high-tops in cherry red. “[Isabelle] really has fun with her outfits and brings a sense of freedom to her accessories,” Davis said. “I love her style because she’s not afraid to be playful and wear accessories that make an impression.”

Shirt Story
Lacoste is celebrating its 80th anniversary in a big way this season — a very big way, in fact. The label recently manufactured “the world’s largest polo shirt,” dubbed Polo Gigante (complete with all the technical specs of a regular-size Lacoste shirt down to the iconic crocodile logo). Lacoste teamed up with Miami artist VJ AV8, also known as Jason Boogie, to adorn the towering top with graffiti-style flowers and sunshine. While the original Polo Gigante is on display in Lacoste’s New York showroom, the brand has produced another version that will travel to Coachella next month. Festival-goers will have a chance to be the artists this time around, launching paint-covered tennis balls at the polo.

Art Therapy
While Bearpaw’s Randy McKinley continues to evolve the company’s “Creative Expressions” program that establishes collaborations with rising artists, the VP of global marketing and brand development said he often exercises his own artistic talents via his kids’ school projects. “When my kids have an art project I just have to step in and help out,” he said. “That’s my [artistic] outlet. I have to say [to the kids], ‘Step aside, I have a vision.’ And I always want to know: ‘Did I get an A?'”
