Nina Taps New President, Looks for Opportunity

NEW YORK — Nina Footwear Corp. continues to overhaul its top leadership ranks.

The New York-based company has tapped former Cole Haan and Hugo Boss USA executive Alan Johnson as president of the company, a newly created role. He will oversee design, sales and marketing for both the Nina and Delman divisions.

Former Delman President Lance DeShazo and former Nina head Michael Shirey have both left the company. DeShazo is now the U.S. head of dancewear firm Bloch, while Shirey is serving as president at Highline United.

At Nina, Johnson will work closely with CEO Ezra Dabah and chief strategic officer Jason Yagoda.

“Nina and Delman both have incredibly rich histories and brand recognition,” Johnson said. “Both are well respected within their individual zones, but neither is [offering] the full assortment of products — the everyday footwear — that women want.”

That could soon change, however. “The few small tests we have made in the more casual space have yielded outstanding success and have shown us the license [our customer] will give us when the product is right,” Johnson said.

For his part, Dabah said Johnson is a strong fit for the team.

“[Alan] is a collaborative and motivational leader who is well respected by the team around him as well as highly regarded by his accounts,” Dabah said.

He continued: “His successful track record of building businesses and increasing sales throughout his career is supported by his unique ability to think both creatively and strategically.”
