The fanfare surrounding Christian Louboutin’s 20th anniversary keeps going and going.
The red-sole king’s anniversary capsule collection took center stage yet again on Thursday, when The Man Repeller (aka fashion blogger Leandra Medine) teamed up with Saks Fifth Avenue and attracted a sidewalk crowd while Medine modeled Louboutin’s shoes in a display window on Fifth Avenue and 50th Street.
Medine described her hour-long appearance as a “live, interactive installation.” The blogger made silly faces, did the chicken dance and performed other antics in addition to trying on shoes from the Louboutin collection — all by request via tweets from her fans on the other side of the glass.
The most popular Twitter request was for Medine to try on the Bow Bow Bow pump from Louboutin’s capsule collection.
“[The fans] were tweeting at me, and I was tweeting back and taking pictures,” said Medine, who also showed off a few of her own characteristically funky outfits, including a voluminous, blush-hued tulle Oscar de la Renta dress topped with a leather jacket.
Medine has partnered with Saks once before, starring in a photo shoot to promote fall ’11 footwear and launch the retailer’s “10022-Shoe” blog on Tumblr. Medine is also a fan of Louboutin, whom she met in person last year, and footwear in general. “I’m a shoe hoarder,” she confessed. “If I could only spend money on one thing, it would be shoes.”
Medine added that Thursday’s event marked a personal milestone. “It’s every girl’s dream to work with brands like Louboutin and Saks,” she said. “For [names] as big as these to want to partner with me — a regular girl who accidentally became a fashion blogger — is huge. I still have to pinch myself because I don’t believe it.”
