David Tutera’s Good Taste

He’s something of a guru for brides. And it’s no wonder: David Tutera has planned numerous weddings and other swanky soirées for clients such as Jennifer Lopez and Elton John, designed gowns and jewelry, starred in the reality TV show “My Fair Wedding” for five seasons and written several books on the subject. Now he’s taking his expertise even further with the spring launch of his eponymous women’s shoe collection, a partnership with Antebi Footwear Group LLC. The heels and flats, offered in a range of colors and patterns, are aimed at brides and bridesmaids and will retail for $95 to $195 at department stores and bridal boutiques starting in January. But Tutera told Footwear News he hopes the looks will stay on the wedding party’s feet long after the toasts are over. “I wanted to create shoes with a mainstream focus on fashion that they could wear beyond that day,” he said. Here, Tutera reveals four hidden passions, two favorite flowers and one wedding trend he’d like to see be forgotten.

Hidden passions:
“I’m a big flower gardener because I love color. I’m also a health freak. I’m a runner and a Pilates junkie — and I love to box.”

Favorite wedding flowers:
“I love Casablanca lilies and gardenias because they are very old Hollywood and they are two of the most potent in fragrance.”

Must-watch non-wedding TV show:
“I love ‘True Blood.’
I’m obsessed.”

Worst wedding trend:
Extravagant entrances. “I just had a bride who wanted to come in on a trapeze from a 75-foot-tall ceiling. She was fixated on the time Pink arrived [that way] at the Grammys a couple years ago.”

Bridal style prediction:
“We’ll go more into deeper, darker, bolder colors for spring and fall ’13. We’ll see more deep reds and burgundies — a little heavier, a bit more of the unexpected and nontraditional.”
