Damian Van Zyll de Jong is looking to give Native Shoes some universal appeal.
The co-founder of the Vancouver, British Columbia-based brand, who oversees design, wants show others how people around the world wear their injection molded EVA shoes. Last week, the company unveiled The Natives, a web series that features individuals with quirky talents in Los Angeles, London, and Budapest, Hungary.
“We really wanted to showcase regular people from all over the world [who do] special things,” Van Zyll de Jong said. “Whether their passion is playing the violin or lifting weights, we want to show how Natives are for everyone.”
The brand itself is also growing into new international markets, as it will be distributed in Russia, Scandinavia, Sweden, Denmark and the Benelux region for the first time this fall.
“The next step right now is to celebrate what we’ve done and figure out what our next silhouettes will be,” said Van Zyll de Jong.
Here, he shares where he likes to wind down close to home and the one kitchen appliance he can’t live without.
Favorite restaurant in Vancouver:
“The Cactus Club Café. “It’s casual fine dining.”

“Seth Rogen because he’s also from Canada.”
