Charlotte Olympia Dellal has officially set up shop in the Big Apple — and the designer toasted her arrival with a fitting fete at Monkey Bar on Thursday night.
“This is my era,” she mused of the restaurant’s 1940s vibe. “But we made a special request for the champagne coupes. Very old-school glamorous.”
And the guest list was equally chic, with partygoers including Lauren Santo Domingo, Elisa Sednaoui, Harley Viera-Newton, Olivier Zahm and Annabelle Dexter-Jones staying late into the evening. A special place of honor was set for “Mum,” as the designer’s mother, Andrea Dellal, was also in town for the event.
But it wouldn’t feel like a Charlotte Olympia party without a soupcon of the designer’s cheeky personality, which came in the form of personalized “Big Apple” Pandora clutches, which stood as a substitute for place cards. The transparent Perspex clutch, designed especially for the New York store, came complete with a miniature red apple closure and interchangeable zipper pouches, one featuring Dellal’s spider web logo.
“Best party favor ever!” oozed one attendee in the mingling aftermath of dinner. Guests — male and female alike — immediately put their name-baring clutches to good use, while Derek Blasberg quipped that he had thought he was the only man with Charlotte Olympia’s Kitty flats (having spotted Dellal’s retail manager, Eduardo Rosso, in a matched pair).
Dellal, who was headed home to London with her two young boys the following day, said she was excited for an excuse to return to New York more often.
“Luckily we’ll have to check in on the new store. I’m English at heart, but New York is New York. Who could resist this?” she asked, with a sweeping wave to her surroundings.
The Charlotte Olympia boutique, located on 65th Street near Madison Avenue, officially opened last Friday.
