Aaron Sanchez’s Good Taste

Celebrity chef Aarón Sanchez has a lot cooking these days. In addition to appearing on such shows as Food Network’s “Heat Seekers,” authoring his second cookbook, “Simple Food: Big Flavor,” and running a trio of restaurants in New York and Leawood, Kan., he has also lent his name to a collection of kitchen-friendly footwear from duty brand Mozo, a division of Deckers Outdoor Corp. As part of the Chef Signature series, which debuted last year, Sanchez added Latin spice to the line, including incorporating the colors of the Mexican flag onto a slip-on shoe. The chef told Footwear News he approached the project as he would a new dish. “I got to know all the elements of the shoes,” said Sanchez. “I’m interested in their composition and how this affects their performance.” And while he designed the line for those on kitchen duty, Sanchez said the appeal is broader. “They’re not [just] about a chef’s shoe,” he said. “They’re visually appealing to workers in hospitals and can be worn with a sport coat. They have a mainstream [everyday] life to them.”

Best dish my wife cooks:
“She makes wonderful pasta and a good homemade Bolognese sauce.”

Chef I’d like to cook me dinner:
“My mentor, Paul Pruehomme. He makes the best Cajun food ever.”

Sports teams I root for:
“I am a huge New Orleans Saints fan. I like Drew Brees [at left]. I also like the New York Knicks.”

I’d never wait in line for…
“A restaurant. There are lots of great ones that need to be patronized.”

Lights out is at… “About 1 a.m. I’m usually lying down and reading. I lead a mellow life. I’ve calmed down a bit.”

Most exciting city: “Buenos Aires. I love the culture, food and sense of family life. I love the commitment to the arts, and there’s lots of fashion.”
