NY Shoe of the Day: Tabitha Simmons for Creatures of the Wind

If it takes one to know one, Tabitha Simmons and Creatures of the Wind make a perfect pair. Simmons and Chicago-based Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters effortlessly meshed their modern perspectives at the spring show. To accompany the collection of tea-length skirts, suiting and poppy prints, Simmons gave patent Mary Janes a 1960s spin via single-sole shoes with round toes and chunky modest heels. While the style’s silhouette had a decidedly vintage vibe, the extreme embellishment (grosgrain trim, ribbon flowers and ankle ties) achieved the modern quirk at which Gabier and Peters excel. From the demure nude version seen here to the candy-colored variety that also hit the runway, this shoe epitomized both labels’ cool-kid looks.
