For young designers, the first New York store is a clear sign they have arrived, and boy, did a lot people make tracks this year.
In April, Matt Bernson debuted a shop in Tribeca that took advantage of his furniture restoration skills.
And in the blockbuster month of May, both Charlotte Olympia Dellal and Nicholas Kirkwood opened chic branded locations, in the Upper East Side and Meatpacking District, respectively.
Not to be outdone, Brian Atwood bowed his boutique on Madison Avenue in October, and can’t seem to stay away from the posh space. “I try not to go there every day so I don’t freak out the salespeople,” he told Footwear News earlier this year. “But I always go unannounced.”
Finally, Sam Edelman’s swanky shop debuted in late October in Soho — a neighborhood the designer described as “the location for the global contemporary customer.”
