FFANY Goes Digital

FFANY is going mobile. The New York-based trade show, taking place June 6-8, will unveil a new iPad app for this edition to better connect attendees and vendors during the market. Acting as the digital version of the show catalog, the app also will provide links to manufacturer websites and sales reps’ email addresses.

“The app provides easier access to the show directory,” FFANY President and CEO Joe Moore said. “It’ll be available before the show starts so buyers can begin planning earlier.”

FFANY will tout its innovation at the opening night industry party at the Bryant Park Grill on Wednesday. During the event, 25 iPads will be given out to retailers via a drawing.

Additionally, the June show marks the introduction of a fashion exhibit that will be on display at the Hilton Hotel. “FFANY is offering, in its first attempt, a major trendsetting presentation for the buyers,” Moore said. “It will highlight key trends for the spring and summer ’13 seasons.”

The installation will be curated by trend research company Fashion Scoops. It will feature shoes chosen from among FFANY exhibitors, presented in four identified trends: Western Frontier, Life Aquatic, La Femme and Sportif.

With 75 new brands added to the roster and attendance expected to be slightly up, Moore said the show still has a way to go. “We will [see] a single-digit increase in registration, which is not significant when compared with our past few years of growth,” he said.

Moore added that he remains cautiously optimistic about the overall economy, but he expects retailers to be hungry for fresh product. “Buyers coming to the show will be looking for exciting shoes,” he said. “The buyers will be here; the challenge will be for vendors to have the right product.”

8 AM-4:30 PM, Monday, June 4

Mandarin Oriental Hotel 80 Columbus Circle Footwear News’ first one-day summit will feature speakers in- cluding Toms Shoes’ Blake mycoskie, designer Rebecca minkoff and Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank.

Two Ten Human Resources Leadership Summit

8 AM-4 PM, Tuesday, June 5
Foot Locker Corporate Office 120 W. 34th St. This conference will shed light on navigating mergers and acquisitions, and will include a panel discussion by executives from Brown Shoe Co., Foot Locker inc. and Rockport Co.

FFANY Opening Night Party
6:30-9 PM, Wednesday, June 6
Bryant Park Grill 25 W. 40th St. The annual FFANY networking party also marks the launch of the FFANY iPad app. Additionally, five Fashion institute of Technology finalists from DSW’s “Design Affair” contest will receive scholarships to Ars Sutoria’s 10-day footwear design course in italy.
