Buzz: A Nicholas Kirkwood Christmas… Pollini Goes Digital

LONDON — Summer may still be coming to a close, but Browns Hotel in London has already got plans for the holidays. The hotel, on Mayfair’s Albemarle Street, has tapped footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood to create its Christmas tree and decorations for the hotel. The tree will feature a host of silver baubles and will be topped with a pair of glittering pumps. Kirkwood said he’d taken his cues for the tree’s design from the hotel’s own mix of old English décor and pieces of modern art and design. “I looked to create a tree blending these two elements. I often approach my own designs in this way,” said Kirkwood. “[I reworked] what we know as traditional Christmas decorations by giving them a sculptural feel.” The tree will make its debut in the hotel Dec. 1.

MILAN — Pollini, the Italian accessories brand under the Aeffe SpA umbrella, has launched of its first e-store. Available in three languages — Italian, English and Russian — the online boutique carries a wide range of Pollini and Studio Pollini products, which can be shipped to several geographic areas, including Europe, Russia, Asia and Africa. “I’m attracted to everything that is digital, and I’m happy to launch this new important project,” said Pollini CEO Antonella Tomasetti. “Through e-commerce, we will be able to reach new markets, with no boundaries in time and geographic areas.” Nicholas Kirkwood, the brand’s creative director, lauded the news. “It’s great to hear that Pollini is expanding,” he said. “This is the logical development we expected from this label, and the timing is perfect. We want our actual and new customers to have the biggest and easiest access possible to Pollini products and to the news on the brand and its evolution.”
