Forget 4-inch stiletto heels. Christian Louboutin is now making ice skates — at least, for one lucky ice champion anyway. American figure skater Johnny Weir, a fan of Louboutin’s studded men’s shoes, had a tête-à-tête over lunch with the red-sole king recently to discuss an exclusive collaboration for some custom skates. Rumors circulated in January that Louboutin might take on the project after Weir told reporters, “I love me some red soles,” on a Martha Stewart Living Radio broadcast. Louboutin’s team denied this at the time, saying the designer had never even met Weir. “Well, Christian finally met Johnny [last month, so] the skate situation is on,” Shawna Rose, director of communications at Christian Louboutin, told Insider. “However, it is still in the super-early stages. They are shipping a pair of Johnny’s old skates to Paris, so Christian can start working on it.” Here’s hoping the three-time U.S. National Champion opts for some studded skates with a red blade.
Alejandro Ingelmo can be a bit superstitious. The designer, who is a nominee for the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design at tonight’s CFDA Fashion Awards (along with Eddie Borgo, Jason Wu and Pamela Love), decided not to do any pre-planning in advance of the event. “Should I win, [my speech] will be heartfelt and off the cuff.” Win or lose, Ingelmo said he is looking forward to meeting one of his celebrity favorites: Lady Gaga, the recipient of the Fashion Icon Award. He’s so excited, in fact, that he already has his footwear picked out. “[I’ll be wearing] the Wooster dress shoe from my spring collection,” he said.
Heidi Klum is upping her fashion cred. While the “Project Runway” star has been spotted in everything from Christian Louboutin to Alexander McQueen, she’s now stepping out on her own with not just one but two footwear lines. “Heidi is a real fashionista. [She] is a driving force in the fashion world,” said Rick Cytrynbaum, co-founder of Modern Vintage and Majestic Mills, which owns the worldwide license for Klum. The HK by Heidi Klum line features everything from flip-flops to wedges. And to showcase her athletic side, the supermodel also debuted the HK for New Balance collection exclusively on Amazon.com Friday. But there’s more: For spring ’12, Klum plans to launch additional categories, including eyewear. Cytrynbaum told Insider after a successful apparel debut last year, Klum’s name holds major appeal. “We look at it as a ‘Heidi’s closet’ concept,” he said. “People love to know what she’s wearing.”
