FN Spy: Couture Class & More

Roll Call
School’s out for summer. Unless, of course, you want to attend a seminar on couture shoes. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London recently hosted a conference on footwear, titled Introducing Couture Shoes, with topics ranging from the designs of the Couture House to reaching the client. Nick Rayne, of Rayne Shoes, was one of the invited speakers, alongside designer Fiona Campbell. And according to Rayne, shoes were a crowd pleaser. “Nobody seemed to doze off during my 40 minutes onstage,” he quipped. And the material also featured a blast from the past, including talk of Rayne’s theatrical and royal connections over the last 126 years and Wedgewood China heels from 1958.

Song Bird
Payless ShoeSource is hitting a high note. Sierra Kusterbeck of alternative rock band VersaEmerge is helping Payless launch its new Brash label. So who is a Brash girl? “She is fun, energetic and inventive,” said the songstress. But Kusterbeck wasn’t sure what to anticipate from a partnership with Payless. “I expected a serious suit-tie kind of thing,” she said. “But they’re fun and creative; not holding me back in any way.” And while onstage, Kusterbeck doesn’t like to hold back on fashion either. She told Spy that her outfits are as energetic as herself. While the artist doesn’t specifically shop for certain brands, she loves online stores like Nasty Gal and will pop into random boutiques while on tour. So what’s up next? Kusterbeck is working on the band’s second album and will perform in Australia in September.
