Footwear Ruled at the Met’s Costume Institute Gala

Fashion’s elite and a bevy of Hollywood starlets paid tribute to the late Alexander McQueen at Monday’s Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

While gowns from the designer’s line were dominant on the red carpet, footwear was equally regal with looks from Louis Vuitton, Nicholas Kirkwood and many others.
Christian Louboutin stepped out with Ashley Olsen, who paired the designer’s sleek pumps with vintage Dior Couture, while Blake Lively, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rihanna also donned looks by the red-sole king. Nearby, Tamara Mellon mingled with Thandi Newton, Penelope Cruz, Lea Michelle and Elizabeth Banks, all of whom sported Jimmy Choo.
Daphne Guinness, however, honored the late designer in a head-to-toe Alexander McQueen ensemble, turning heads in a pair of show-stopping heel-less platforms and feather dress that captured McQueen’s penchant for the unique.

Other highlights included Ginnifer Goodwin in Aperlai blue and teal sandals, Mia Wasikowska in Brian Atwood platforms, Miranda Kerr’s white Nicholas Kirkwood lace-up heels and Leighton Meester in strappy, black pumps by Louis Vuitton.
