Umi has a new addition. The Milwaukee-based children’s brand is stepping into the infant/toddler category in a big way with the fall ’11 launch of Umi Baby. The collection addresses the specific needs of each major developmental stage. For babies preparing to sit up and move around, the Infant series, in European sizes 16 to 19, offers soft-sole shoes with extra-roomy toe boxes. The Crawl and Cruise line, in sizes 18 to 22, features designs with flexible bottoms and rubber outsole wraps at the toe and heel for little ones moving and getting ready to walk. Rounding things out, the First Walker group, in sizes 20 to 24, delivers durable, lightweight shoes with flexible outsoles for children taking their first steps. The Baby collection is designed to complement Umi’s offering for older kids, with styles including Mary Janes, T-straps, sneakers and loafers in sophisticated colors like plum, pewter, cognac and cocoa. Priced from $34 to $55, the collection will be sold in boutiques and department stores, among them Nordstrom, Harry’s Shoes in New York, Sole Food in Seattle and Brooks Shoes for Kids in Los Angeles.
