Flip Flop Shops is heading north.
The Atlanta-based retailer announced on Wednesday it has inked a master franchise agreement with businessman Doug Kingston to open 30 shops throughout Canada within the next 10 years.
“This is huge for Flip Flop Shops,” President Brian Curin said in a press release. “Doug’s operations will be a complete extension of who we are. He will be responsible for growing the brand and providing ongoing support for his franchisees.”
Currently, the retailer has about 40 locations in operation and 60 under development, including five Canadian locations scheduled to bow in the next year.
For his part, Kingston said in a statement he looked forward to introducing Canadians to the unique retail experience the stores provide. “Flip Flop Shops has exploded throughout the U.S., and I’m looking to bring this same energy to Canada,” he said. “This niche concept works. Plus, the demand for flip-flops and sandals never dies, no matter what time of the year.”
