Comfort Buzz: Dr. Garcon, P.W. Minor, Poochkis & More

Doctor’s Orders
After recently introducing Dr. Garçon, a line of comfort-based vulcanized sneakers, to consumers via his website, Drgarcon.com, podiatrist Gregoire Garçon is now offering the shoes to retailers. The colorful canvas looks use a thick cushioned footbed designed to relieve pressure caused by standing and walking. The line also includes a series of companion styles for kids. Retailing from $30 to $80, the shoes are available for immediate delivery.

Tour Guides
New York-based Scrubbs, a collection of casuals, are made for a day of sightseeing. Created by Alessandra D’Imperio, the women’s styles are lightweight, featuring removable EVA footbeds with built-in arch supports, non-slip rubber outsoles and colorful, water-repellent satin uppers. “We travel a lot and walk around in sneakers,” said D’Imperio. “I wanted to create something more exciting that you can wear with fun clothes.” Included in the seven-style offering are a skimmer, laceup, gored slip-on, ankle and knee-high boot. Set to deliver in July, the line retails for $90 for shoes and $160 for tall boots.

Easy Living
At-home footwear has taken a luxe turn with the launch of Westport, Conn.-based Poochkis, a line of high-end slippers. According to co-founder and SVP Sangita Malhorta, the collection is targeted to women who want to be comfortable and sexy. “They’re [ideal] hostess looks,” she said about the Italian-made slippers designed by Creative Director Giancarlo Manzone. Among the styles are ballet flats with Swarovski crystals, for $285; a hand-knit wedge style, for $485; and a hand-knit baby mohair and patent leather look on a high heel (at right), for $1,195. All feature Polartec linings. For those on a more moderate budget, Poochkis also offers slipper socks in a range of colors and heights, including an ankle version for $18 and a calf-length version for $22. Targeted to high-end department and specialty stores, the slipper socks are available for immediate delivery, with the slippers following in May.

Double Exposure
Wellness brand P.W. Minor of Batavia, N.Y., is introducing two extra-depth lines for fall. The Vintage Collection of men’s Goodyear-welted styles (at left) is handcrafted in the company’s U.S. factory and includes a 6-inch boot, chukka and oxford. The shoes are made of tumbled oiled leathers with leather outsoles, a moisture-management lining and cushioned footbed. Retailing from $350 to $400, they will deliver in August. The company also has created Active Casuals, a series of looks for men and women on a flexible Opanka construction. Designed on a full “European” last, the shoes feature compression-molded EVA midsoles and rubber-and-cork outsoles. Retail prices range from $129 to $159, with delivery set for August.
