Metallics, Lucite, waxed canvas and ponyhair comprise the melange of materials designers played with for their spring footwear concoctions. With loads of ankle interest and not-so-slight platforms, this batch of sandals is both rich in detail and subtle in color palette. Alejandro Ingelmo worked the ton-sur-ton look beautifully in his cross-strap sandal with ponyhair detail and tractor sole, while Donna Karan dressed up the wooden platform look with gold metallic straps. Rachel Roy paired snakeskin with wooden stacked heels and transparent straps for a minimalist futuristic look in her spring sandals, a vibe Ruthie Davis also channeled in her spring “robot” sandals, which were on show at the Dennis Basso runway show. Whatever the combination for spring, it’s clear the best looks are all about the mix.
