Toms Shoes is turning its attention to safe water with this month’s launch of two styles.
The limited-edition classic shoes, launching May 20, will be sold exclusively on the Santa Monica, Calif.-based company’s Website to benefit a water project in Ethiopia. Proceeds will raise money to build a water well in the village of Sekura in northwest Ethiopia.
The initiative is a partnership between Toms and Charity: Water, a non-profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. The hand-dug well will provide water for the village’s 540 residents. Everyone who purchases a pair of the shoes will receive details on how they have directly contributed to the project, including pictures of the well once it’s built.
The shoes will retail for $58 and will be available until funding for the project is completed. The Map style is a heather gray version featuring a map pattern of Africa, while the Water style is blue and designed with a water illustration. Both are made of sustainable fabric.
