The Shoe Market of the Americas has teamed with the Great Commission Alliance to raise money and gather clothing, shoes, canned goods and medical supplies to help earthquake victims in Haiti.
Collection bins will be placed in the lobby and at the registration desk of the Broward County Convention Center and Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina Hotel during SMOTA’s show, held March 7-9 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
“We’ve always had a desire to help when there is a need,” said Beverlee Maier, executive director of SMOTA and a GCA member. “Those are our retailers down there, and they need our support.”
Attendees from 15 countries and 35 Caribbean islands, including Haiti, are expected to attend the March show. All donations will be sent through the GCA to Mirebalais, a city in central Haiti. Maier said that Haitians have been fleeing the capital city of Port-au-Prince and overwhelming the city of Mirebalais. The GCA guarantees that all contributions it receives will go directly to Haiti relief.
